I suggest you take your filter cover to the parts
store and have them size match it. You really do
need some kind of seal in there. The cover is rather
thin compared to the engine case, and will grow as
it warms up. That seal will expand to keep the
groove in the cover closed.
As for SE or SF, I don't worry about it when I change
the oil in my 98 model. Quaker State 4X4 synthetic
or castrol straight in 20W50 or 30W is what I use.
Exclusively! Hot weather, thin oil, and air cooled
bike engines don't mix.
Have fun. Good question, haven't seen it in context to
this machine before.
